Jongmin Park was the winner of the Song Prize the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World competition in 2015, and is currently a member of the prestigious ensemble at Wiener Staatsoper.
In the 2017/18 season at the Wiener Staatsoper, Jongmin’s repertoire will include Ferrando Il trovatore conducted by Marco Armiliato, alongside a cast including Anna Netrebko and Marcelo ?lvarez; Vodn?k in Rusalka, conducted by Tom?? Hanus with Krassimira Stoyanova in the title role; as well as Banco, Macbeth; Don Basilio, Il barbiere di Siviglia; Figaro, Le nozze di Figaro; Sir Giorgo, I puritani; and Hunding, Die Walk?re. In addition to his operatic engagements in Vienna, Jongmin will make his debut at Bergen Nasjonale Opera as Lodovico in Otello conducted by Edward Gardner.
Recent opera highlights include his debut at the Royal Opera House Covent Garden as Colline in La boh?me; Teatro Real Madrid on tour at the The Savonlinna Opera Festival as Sir Giorgo in I puritani conducted by Evelino Pid?; criticallyacclaimed role debuts as Hunding in Die Walk?re and Fasolt in Das Rheingold in Vienna and his debut at The Salzburg Festival in 2016 (Die Liebe der Danae).
On the concert platform, Jongmin has appeared at the BBC Proms; in Verdi’s Messa da Requiem at the Wiener Konzerthaus, and at the Royal Festival Hall with The Philharmonia under Edward Gardner; Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the NHK Orchestra in Japan under Herbert Blomstedt and made his recital debut at the Wigmore Hall.
Looking ahead, Jongmin will make a series of exciting opera and concert debuts, including at The Dallas Opera (Rusalka); as well as continuing his successful relationship with the Weiner Staatsoper.
In addition to the BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2015, other prizes and competitions he has won include the International Tchaikovsky Competition, and the Birgit Nilsson Wagner-Award at Operalia.
His past concert engagements have included Beethoven’s Symphony No. 9 with the London Symphony Orchestra, Mozart’s Vesperae solennes de Confessore at Teatro alla Scala’s annual Christmas concert, Mozart’s Requiem at the Lech Classic Festival, Verdi’s Messa da Requiem with the KBS Symphony in Seoul, and Rossini’s Stabat Mater with the NHK Symphony in Tokyo. He has performed solo recitals in Munich and Frankfurt, as well as the Musikverein in Vienna.
Jongmin studied singing at the Korea National University of Arts. As a member of the Accademia Teatro alla Scala, he was guided by Mirella Freni, Luciana Serra, Luigi Alva, and Renato Bruson and during the 2010-2013 seasons, he was a member of the ensemble at the Hamburgische Staatsoper where he sang various leading roles. In 2013, he was invited to join the ensemble at the Wiener Staatsoper.
