서정적인 음색과 풍부한 음악성으로 해외유수의 무대에서 각광받고 있는 콜로라투라 소프라노 양제경은 한국예술종합학교를 졸업했다 (師事 김영미). 그녀는 프랑스 파리 음악고등사범학교 석사, 오스트리아 빈 시립음대 오페라과 석사, 독일 바이마르 프란츠 리스트 국립음대 최고연주자과정을 만장일치 최고점수로 졸업했다. 세계적인 테너 플라시도 도밍고에게 “매우 아름다운 목소리를 가지고 있다”라는 호평을 받은 그녀는 미국 워싱턴 D.C 도밍고-카프리츠 영 아티스트 프로그램 전문연주자 과정을 졸업했다.
그녀는 일찍이 중앙음악콩쿠르 1위 없는 2위, 성정전국음악콩쿠르 금상, 세종음악콩쿠르 최우수상, KBS 서울신인음악콩쿠르 은상, 수리음악콩쿠르 2위 등에 입상하며 전도 유망한 차세대 성악가로 주목을 받았으며 해외에서는 일본 오사카 국제음악콩쿠르 전체 대상 및 특별상 3개, 미국 플로리다 오페라 국제콩쿠르 1위, 중국 닝보 국제성악콩쿠르 2위, 스페인 빌바오 국제성악콩쿠르 3위, 이탈리아 파비아 가에타노 프라스키니 국제콩쿠르 3위 등 해외 유수의 국제콩쿠르에 입상하며 한국 성악가의 우수성을 널리 알렸다.
미국 무대에서 그녀는 존 F. 케네디 센터 도니제티 ‘람메르무어의 루치아’의 주인공 루치아 역과 워싱턴 국립오페라극장 모차르트 ‘여자는 다 그래’의 데스피나 役으로 출연하며 미국의 주요 평론가들과 언론으로부터 찬사를 받았다. 특히 세계적인 지휘자 크리스토프 에센바흐의 지휘 아래 베토벤 ‘피델리오’의 마르첼리네 역과 모차르트 레퀴엠의 소프라노 독창자로 협연한 그녀에게 에센바흐는 “완숙미 넘치는 음색과 표현의 서정성으로 두드러진 모습을 보였다“라며 극찬을 아끼지 않았다. 그녀는 또한 워싱턴 대성당에서 포레 ‘레퀴엠’의 소프라노 독창자와 워싱턴 한국문화원 초청독창회 등에도 출연했다.
유럽으로 무대를 옮긴 그녀는 오스트리아 린츠 주립극장과 바덴 시립극장에서 모차르트 ‘후궁으로부터의 탈출’의 콘스탄체 役으로 출연했으며 다수의 유럽극장에서 베르디 '리골레토'의 질다 역, 벨리니 ‘청교도’의 엘비라 역, 로시니 '랭스로의 여행'의 코르테제 부인 역, 스트라빈스키 '난봉꾼의 행각'의 앤 역 등으로 출연하며 훌륭한 연주력을 선보였다. 슬로바키아 필하모닉 오케스트라와 브람스 ‘독일 레퀴엠’, 터키 보루산 이스탄불 필하모닉 오케스트라와 모차르트 ‘환호하라, 기뻐하라’의 소프라노 독창자로 호연하며 섬세한 곡 해석을 선보였다.
국내에서는 국립오페라단과 푸치니 ‘라보엠’의 무제타 역, 요한 슈트라우스 ‘박쥐’의 아델레 역으로 출연했으며 대전과 부산시립교향악단의 송년음악회에서 베토벤 교향곡 9번의 소프라노 독창자, 예술의 전당 IBK홀 듀오 리사이틀, 제주신보 서귀포 초청독창회, 조선일보 신인음악회 등 다수의 독창회와 콘서트 연주자로서 관객과 소통하고 있다.
그녀는 2022년 오스트리아 바덴 시립극장의 신년음악회와 베르디 '라 트라비아타'의 비올레타 역으로 출연 했으며 프리렌서 성악가로서 유럽과 한국 무대에서 지속적인 연주활동으로 활발한 음악적 행보를 전개 중이다.
South Korean coloratura soprano Jegyung Yang was born in Seoul and studied singing at the Korea National University of Arts, the École Normale de Musique in Paris and the Musik und Kunst Privatuniversität der Stadt Wien in Austria. She was a member of the Washington National Opera’s Domingo-Cafritz Young Artist Program, founded by Plácido Domingo which offers exceptionally promising young singers two years of intensive training and career guidance with a team of world-renowned coaches.
During the 2021/22 season she performed as Violetta (La Traviata) and New Year’s Concert at the Stadttheater Baden.
In 2013 she moved to Vienna, Austria where she performed the roles of Konstanze (Die Entführung aus dem Serail) at the Landestheater Linz and at the Stadttheater Baden, Gilda (Rigoletto) and Elvira (I puritani) with the company Oper in der Krypth, Madama Cortese (Il viaggio a Reims) at the Muth and Anne (The Rake’s Progress) at the Theater Akzent. Other roles include Adele (Die Fledermaus) and Musetta (La Bohème) at the Seoul Art Center.
During the 2010-2012 seasons, she sang leading roles such as Marzelline (Fidelio) under the baton of Christoph Eschenbach, title role of Lucia di Lammermoor in a concert performance and Despina (Così fan tutte) at the Kennedy Center.
Her concert engagements have included Mozart’s Requiem at the Kennedy Center under the baton of Christoph Eschenbach, Brahms’s Ein deutsches Requiem with the Slovak Philharmonic, Mozart’s Exsultate, Jubilate with the Borusan Istanbul Philharmonic, Händel’s Messiah at the Wiener Konzerthaus, Fauré’s Requiem at the Washington National Cathedral and Beethoven’s 9th Symphony with the Busan Philharmonic and Daejeon Philharmonic.
She has performed solo recital in Washington, D.C., Jeju and Seoul in Korea.
She won the Florida Grand Opera’s YPO Voice Competition and the Osaka International Music Competition in Japan. The second prize at the Ningbo International Vocal Competition in China. The third prize at the Bilbao International Singing Competition and the Concorso Internazionale Voci Nuove per la Lirica in Pavia, Italy.
Jegyung Yang currently resides in Vienna, Austria.
